I am delighted to teach the pine needle basket class as a shamanic practice of connecting with prayer and plants.

In this intro workshop we will learn the basics and start a pine needle basket, these are usually small to start as the basket guides you, not the other way around ;)

It’s the old earth centered way of connecting with nature and the art of weaving.

I've really been feeling called to gather during these times, and this craft really helps me to relax my nervous system, focus my energy and connect with the plants. It's really sweet to do it in community too!

The way I've been taught this craft has been as a shamanic art, a way we can weave in our prayers and intention (for ourselves or others), an act of being in the present journey instead of a goal or direction. It's hard to explain but these baskets really do take their own shape, you can help guide them but they take on a form of their own! This can be frustrating to those of us that are more perfectionists 😉 but it's a great practice at releasing control and being with the flow!

During the winter the pine needles are abundant in our yards and parks, they make for a magical natural and sustainable craft. I mostly weave with raffia (natural and dyed) which is a natural fiber that comes from the raffia palm tree. I will provide materials, tea and snacks, feel free to bring a cushion to sit on, blanket and treat to share (optional). Most likely we will be starting our baskets and getting the flow of the craft during this time and then I'll set you up with some materials to take home and finish it. This will be an opportunity to soak in some teachings, experience, and time in community.
